Arundel Bay Area Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Sponsors Scholarship Through Annapolis Trust
“Giving away money is never easy,” Shirley Little, a long time Annapolis Trust Board member, always reminds us.
Dr. Tia McNair, the education committee chairwoman for the Arundel Bay Area (ABA) Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc., recommended the organization provide an in-need scholarship to a local student, as part of the chapter's 25th anniversary. However, administering a newly established scholarship consisted of extensive work the chapter did not have the capacity to fully implement.
ABA is dedicated to nurturing future leaders by supporting African-American youth through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty. ABA believes that every youth, with proper education, guidance and opportunity can be a leader. ABA members could see the potential in partnering with the Annapolis Trust, so the two organizations aligned.
As a scholarship partner, ABA has been able to leverage the Annapolis Trust’s fifteen year experience in the scholarship process, offer a 4 year $800/semester scholarship and was actively involved in setting the criteria and the selection process. The Annapolis Trust managed the marketing and administration of the process. ABA members were able to focus on raising funds for their named scholarship and will follow the Annapolis Trust model to provide a mentoring network for the scholarship winner, Da’Juan Gay, throughout his college career and into the professional world.

ABA member, Denise Holmes joined the Annapolis Trust selection committee in establishing the criteria, reviewing applications and the student interviews.
"It was an amazing experience,” she shared. “I truly appreciated partnering with some amazingly talented and experienced educators at the Annapolis Trust, who shared our commitment to support deserving students with demonstrated potential and the desire to progress."
