Track Day 2017
The Colonial Challenge Cup Inc, ran another successful track day at Summit Point Motorsports Park in April raising over $8,000 for the Annapolis Trust. The event provides the opportunity for you to bring your car to Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia and learn your real capabilities as a driver in a controlled environment under the tutelage of experienced instructors. Approximately 80 participants attended the event and the “weather Gods” produced a wonderful sunny spring day. Our sincere thanks to our sponsors; Charles Schwab, ByteGrid, DFS Construction, DPR Construction, HSU Builders, and Hyper Bicycles. Funds raised will provide support for three students to attend college next year. Our special thanks to our celebrity guest, Travis Pastrana, for attending the event. He entertained everyone with tales about his driving experiences, signed autographs and took some lucky visitors on a few laps around the track.
Our support of the program to send two students to spend three weeks in Scotland at the Gordonstoun International Summer School continued this year. Caleb Lewis and Trinity Brown thoroughly enjoyed their time at the school. The program has provided over 25 scholarships to underserved local youth in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County since 2002. In a unique partnership with Gordonstoun American Foundation, the goal of the program is to expose young people from disadvantaged circumstances to new and different experiences and set the tone for their quality of life. We are looking forward to hearing their experiences upon their return.
And finally, our thanks to Robin Sparrow for sponsoring the Trust in his “One Lap of America” BMW. Crush it Mr. Sparrow. We will be with you all the way.
Future fund raising events for the balance of the year include the Colonial Challenge sailing regatta in September followed by another track day at Dominion Motorsports Park in Virginia in October
